We performed the stress analysis with the combination of B31.8 & B31.3 for onshore piping and pipe line system.

The pipe line is connected with pig receiver.

We received the receiver thickness detail from client (UT results).

We had chosen the appropriate code and material for pipeline and piping in CAESAR. we had chosen unrestraint option for pipeline since this is above ground.

We had performed pipeline thickness calculation and the same is validated by my senior and found that the thickness is not sufficient. The following are the parameters used for calculation.

Material: API 5L X42
Design Pressure: 8300 kpa
Design Temperature: 150 deg C
Minor Barrel Size: 20”
C.A = 0 mm
Design Factor = 0.72
T = 0.967
Minimum Yield Stress = 289.58 N/mm2
The minimum required thickness is 10.46mm.However the available thickness is 9.50mm.

We performed the stress analysis using CAESAR with 9.5mm thickness and stress failure (thickness related issues) is not found. Kindly advice.
