Dear All,

I am from power piping. I did analysis of integral piping(downcomer, risers, saturation links, soot blower system, etc). During these analysis i had not considered seismic or wind case. I asked for reason, but dint get answer. All these systems are supported in boiler structure.
Now i am working in process piping. Here they have asked to consider these occasional case(seismic and wind) for all piping. Some are supported in racks and other in individual structure.
My next project is buried piping.
My doubt is when to consider seismic & wind and when not to consider.
I had read many post in net. But cant able to find exact answer.
Kindly help to understand this.

Regards,
Kparthy

If there is a seismic risk, include it when above ground, anywhere.

If the piping is in an enclosed bulding, exclude wind, otherwise include it.

For buried pipe, seismic should not have an effect since the pipe must move with the ground, unless crossing a fault where shear may occur. Caesar II cannot predict or model this.

Wind on buried pipe .... doh.
