A buried pipe subjected to loading from crane parked above. The pipe is 1.8m dia 12mm thk with top of pipe 3.7m below ground. The pipe material is carbon steel and it is empty when the crane is above ground. The intended service is water.
The total crane loading (including load lifted) is 907.8 tons over a footprint of 11.6m x 9.9m.
The CAESAR II model & The soil parameters used are attached for your reference.
· How to apply the load in this pipe in CAESAR II?
· Any other parameters are to be considered?
· Any code reference or any design manual there?
I used uniform loads to apply the load.Is this correct?
I suggest you have to do manual calculation to verify the hoop stress on pipe by using API RP1102 or research an applicable AWWA code. Caesar-II cannot be used in your case. Practical approach is to use a thick steel plate cover to be placed on the ground just to spread the heavy loads of crane to the surrounding soil.
