This maybe classic questions and normal practice, however I want to understand more deeply. I have searched the forum but cannot find suitable explanation. Please advice.

Why do we need to check bending stress at flange as 1st method in a project? Why do we say this is the most conservative method?

What point should be checked for bending stress (flange face or weld neck flange)?

#3:
What is the base to decide allowable bending stress?
