For a project we have been working on, expansive soil were observed and some soil shrinkage & expansion will be anticipated based on Geotechnical Engineer report . I need some suggestion how to consider the expansive soil in the stress design for underground piping and transition ( riser from underground to aboveground)using CAESAR. Thanks

In my own opinion, you can ask the civil/structural guys how much shrinkage/expansion will the soil experience in mm's (worst case)? From this info you can model imposed displacement on the first support of the above ground piping +/- movement and check the displacement stresses b/w the aboveground/underground interface....

Any other opinions are welcome...
