dear all,
i need some emperical formula, for finding out the linear thermal expansion, directly without using the code or any other material.
as i heard that some std material got this formula.

of if anybody could send me some.

Each material expands differently. See Tables B13.3 Appendix C.
For the most common material low cabon steel a correlation for 0 to 250 C from 0 C as base is:
alpha = 10.61533+0.00732T microstrain/C
To use this for say 20 C to 200 C:
expansion=[10.61533+0.00732(20+200)](200-20)/1000
=2.201 millistrain = 2.201 mm/m.
Correlation for 0 to 500 C from 0 C base is:
alpha = 10.683407+0.006826T
As I said other materials have different correlations.
Correlations can also be made for E-values.
