i have soil settlement in my pump piping area
please clarify my following doubt

1) shall i consider the settlement in pump nozzle?

2) shall i considered the settlement in spring hanger

3) i want to design my spring hanger case for settlement only not for normal operating ,so when i defined case like this spring is not taking settlement

L1- W+H (Hgr)(for weight)
L2- W+D1+T1+P1+H (HGR) (for movement)
L3- W+D1+D4+T1+H (HGR) (for movement)

Here D1-pump displacement
D4-pump settlement
if i remove the case L2 itz taking load is it ok?

3) my nozzle have qualified in all other cases except settlement, is there any clause in API 610 to relaxation for settlement cases

thanks

Hi,

Could you attach a plot of the model and also state your operating and design conditions (pressure and temperature)?

Thanks.

Hallo stress lover,
this could help uo some extent

i have soil settlement in my pump piping area
please clarify my following doubt

1) shall i consider the settlement in pump nozzle?

Soil settlement case for pumps are usually considered for heavy pumps and when the soil properties are not good..Its better to ask civil group for settlement values .If the values are quite high then i guess u should.
Pumps are strain sensitive equipments.

2) shall i considered the settlement in spring hanger.
well Better to ask experts ...i have not used till now

3) i want to design my spring hanger case for settlement only not for normal operating ,so when i defined case like this spring is not taking settlement

L1- W+H (Hgr)(for weight)
L2- W+D1+T1+P1+H (HGR) (for movement)
L3- W+D1+D4+T1+H (HGR) (for movement)

Here D1-pump displacement
D4-pump settlement
if i remove the case L2 itz taking load is it ok?

For spring design as u might be knowing
L2 case (ie) the immediate next loadcase to weight gets the vertical displacements(travel) for the spring.
In ur case L2 , D4 was missing so it did not consider the travel u actually wanted to design for..

If you still wish to have multiple operating cases of travel for hanger design .
You should define the no of operating cases for travel.
Refer the Caesar technical reference manual for the same .
Search for "Multiple Load Case Design".
You will find the answer for yourself.

3) my nozzle have qualified in all other cases except settlement, is there any clause in API 610 to relaxation for settlement cases

No there is no such relaxation clause in API 610 .

thks
suri
