How must we consider the modeling of Flexible Hose ?
Can these be treated as Expansion Joints.

I have flexible hose in my Piping system near to Nozzle of a Rotary Filter. This is a rotating equipment. The nozzle sizes are of 3". The allowable Nozzle loads are too low.

The "short answer" is that you don't model these.

Search this forum for "flexible hose" and read the resulting posts.

The above reply is true. But, when paid, we serve to minimise usage of flex hose lengths, too.

I had used single braided 321 SS metallic flex hoses in cryogenic applications with the following assumptions :

high axial & torsional stiffness - 1E6 lbs/inch- only subjected to lateral deflection.

Vendor generally gives lateral stiffness v/s live length data for specific pressure class.

System has to be properly supported and guided to protect flex hose from compression or torsion. Otherwise, one may have to use flex hoses in multiple orthogonal direction locations.

regards,

sam
