Isn't a duct just a thin pipe ??

Beware if the D/t is greater than 100.

Dear Manjunath,

I had a similar problem and posed it in user forum. I had to analyze 3600 mm dia and 25 thick pipe to be analyzed. This pipe behaves more like a shell rather than a beam, the formulations of which are used in CII. It was opined that the SIF's predicted by CII are no longer valid as the ratio is > 100. It was suggested to use FEPIPE for such kind of pipes as this software can predict accurate SIF's.

You may pl. refer to earlier forum correspondence on the subject.

Regards,
S. RAGHAVA CHARY
