Dear Members,

Can we model Lip type nozzles in PVElite.
My joint configuration is as per Table 4.2.13 Detail-1 of Div-2.
Since allowable stress values are different for shell and lip material, additional thickness may be required in lip area. How this can be calculated..?

Dear Vibin,

As such there is not a direct method of modelling lip type nozzle in PV Elite, but modeling of lip type nozzle is same as that of Simple self- reinforced nozzle except putting weld sizes zero in nozzle dialog & deciding lip thickness.

You can check lip thickness as per below mentioned steps-
1. Replace Shell Material on which lip type nozzle is modeled with the nozzle material.
2. If your Shell fails then increase shell thickness until it pass. the increased shell thickness will be your lip thickness.

3. If after replacing shell material with nozzle forging material, your shell doesn't fail then your lip thickness will be same as of shell thickness.
