Dear all

I'm designing a loop for a steam piping system low and high pressure lines for pipe rack to DN 1100mm and 600mm, 18bar, 240º and 170°,7 bar.

It´s a black liquor plant and subject analysis of seismic and wind.

With support every 6 meters to weight and line guide for DN600 and with the same layout for DN1100, the lira withstand weight and guided.

In the revised analysis once see that the loads on the supports are admissible under 2T, but displacement in case operation condition ¿what are the maximum allowed displacement for X and Z?

Thank you for your help!
Best regards

Maximum allowed displacement depends on many system specific factors like support shoe length axially and clearance to adjacent pipes laterally. There are no absolute rules.

Thank you for your help

But, I have a maximum displacement of x=60mm (axialy) and a maximum lateral displacement of 15mm in a DN 600mm, and I don´t design support, ¿are very big these displacements?

Best regards.

So who does design the support ? Ask them what the support is designed for. The numbers you quote are moderate and ought to be no problem.

Civil engineer designs the support I only calculate loops and flexibility analysis.

For another design loop in this pipe, I have a maximum displacement in operation case axially 78mm and in z=79mm

Are these displacements very large?

Thank you

Best regards.

You'll generally find 4" or 100mm as a minimum allowed axial displacements at shoes in most of the "supports standard".Some company standards even have shoes that allow as much as 300-350 mm axial displacements.

So 78mm disp shouldn't be an issue. But mark these axial & lateral displacements on Stress isos so that the designer can check for any interference.
