Dear All,

Normally i used 0.3 as friction coefficient for Steel to steel pipe support. Does any body have experience with friction coefficient of FRP pipe and steel pipe support.

thanks

Use 0.3 as you have to use a metal shield tied with some collars in order to void direct contact between FRP and steel.

Thanks Dan,
but how about friction between metal with FRP, because i saw some FRP pipe supported with simple metal saddle.

The metal saddle have to be tied with straps around the FRP pipe therefore the friction is between metal saddle and metal beam.

Moreover, a rubber pad is placed between the shield and the pipe.

yes, normally we used 0.3 for friction metal to metal.
For friction FRP with metal, what number should i use?

thanks

I guess nobody knows. The point is that you will damage the pipe if you do not use the saddle.

Hello Movita,

The friction coefficent is still 0.3 for steel to steel, and 0.1 for PTFE to steel, the GRP support need rubber band and saddle to eliminat local stress on pipe surface, please read the specail cases for GRP support.
