Hi all
I was wondering if using the API-650 module in CAESAR, means that the rotation and displacement of nozzle is being considered. The only thing CAESAR help talks about is nozzle flexibility consideration.

From version 5.30 (CAESAR II 2011) the nozzle rotation and displacement according to API650 can be added to a displacement vector (D1 to D9). This will only be the displacement due to bulging. Thermal displacement is not added in these displacement vectors afaik.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean the bulgement rotation and disp. Are calculated by CAESAR and input as vectors? Because in previous versions you could enter the values for them as disp. vectors as well, but you had to calculate them manually and put them in.

With CAESAR II version 2011 (5.30) the software can calculate bulging displacement and rotation for you when you insert an API650 nozzle in your model. With older versions it is not possible to let CAESAR II calculate these displacements.

Actually CAESAR II always calculated the bulging displacement and rotation. It's just that until 5.30 you had to manually take these values back to the input and specify them in a displacement vector. With 5.30, you have the option of automatically making the transfer to a specified displacement vector.

Richard, you are right. I was indeed talking about the automatic take-over and not referring to the error check/calculation info on the API650 nozzle.

There is a "drop list" on the API-650 nozzle dialog, where you specify which Displacement Vector (D1-D9) you want the computed deflections to be assigned to.

When you specify the nozzle data, and select a displacement vector (say D1), then when you pass through Error Checking, the displacement and rotation of the nozzle are put back in the input, at the nozzle node. You have to invoke the Error Check process, where this computation occurs.

Hi,
Even I am facing the same problem as in how to include displacement vector (say D1) in the input. You said that they are picked automatically, but in the output the displacements are shown as 0,0,0. Also,if we want to enter the Thermal growth of the tank, we have to start from the displacement vector 2?

If your displacements are shown as zero, then I'll guess you did't include "Dx" in your load case.
You can put the thermal growth in any vector you want.

Thanks Richard,
It does pick the value when we enter the Tank Node(optional) in the Nozzle flex.
Also,it overwrites any value we enter manually in the same displacement vector we mention in the set displacement vector. This implies that we are supposed to enter thermal displacements in the separate vectors and combine them manually in the load case editor.
