Could any advise me on how to model a transition (reduction in incoming flow area) nozzle in PV Elite under WRC 297 requirements for checking the local stresses at nozzle-shell junction due to external loads applied on the nozzle.

Your help is highly appreciated.

Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Can you please elaborate, whether the shell is conical or the nozzle is conical?

Hi KunalShah,

The nozzle is conical (enlarged in nozzle entrance flow area) . Please advise me if there's an approach where I can adopt for the nozzle load analysis in accordance to WRC 297 using PV Elite. Thanks

Since the nozzle is conical (and not the shell), you can proceed as per regular methodology. WRC evaluates the stresses at nozzle to shell junction. Hence regardless of nozzle configuration what matters is the nozzle size or cross section at intersection with shell. Hence enter the thickness and radius of nozzle at the intersection. All external loads which are entered are the loads transferred at the junction. By this way you can approximate (?) the analysis.
