Hi all,
I am performing Flange leakage of socket weld flanges of size 1" and 1 1/2" as per ASME SECTION VIII DIV1 in Caesar.
Now the problem is even if I enter values of Design pressure=1bar, forces=1N and moment=1Nm then too seating stress values are high. Which is almost near to Allowable values. So when I enter actual forces and moments, flange fails.
What is the reason for this, why seating stress are high even at negligible forces and moments and what is the solution to this?

The ASME SECTION VIII DIV1 analysis in CAESAR II is a stress check. The "flange leakage computation is a course FEA routine that we added to the module (described in the documentation).

The ASME SECTION VIII DIV1 stress computation often fails standard ANSI flanges. However, ANSI flanges are deemed acceptable (grandfathered as OK).
