Hi:

I have a system consisting of about 10 springs with 7 different temperature scenarios(shut off, bypasses etc,). For sizing the springs, I selected the Max Travel Option under the "Hanger Design Criteria" to cover max displacement case.

1)Is this the correct procedure?

2)Also, When I view the hanger report and compare it to max displacement at the node for each spring, I find that there is quite a bit of discrepancy. For example, the max displacement at one of the "hanger" nodes is 3.4" under displacement data; while the Hanger Report shows 4.05" of vertical movement at the spring for this particular node. Why is there a discrepancy?

3)How are the springs sized under the :MAX TRAVEL Case?

Appreciate your help in advance.

Thanks.

1) There is no answer to this one. Your selection is one of the valid choices offered.

2) The data in the hanger report is obtained from the hanger design cases. These cases are your system, without the hangers installed. So yes there could be a discrepancy between the hanger design cases and your actual system load cases - depending on the affects the hanger stiffness has to the overall system response.

3) The maximum travel at each hanger location is used in the spring selection.
