Hello Shabeer

The method we use for more than two saddle supports is an approximation. We should really design the shell as a continuous beam with supports that do not subside. We have not done that yet in PV Elite, but is on our list of things to do. We limited the design to 4 saddles as the method is not strictly accurate.

Hi shabeer,
more than four saddles r not yet possible in PVElite, however u should have to do it manually considering the vessel as a continuous beam & the UDL is acting over it & any other attachment at any point on the vessel. then resolve the forces to get loads at supports. once u will get these reactions, further is to apply zick analysis.

The method suggested by Mak is a solution, but analysing the vessel as a continuous beam is a little tedious. There is a method known as 'Moment Distribution' also known and the 'Hardy Cross' method. This is an iterative process to get the moments and forces. Excel lends itself to this method. However, you will probably have to get hold of a structures book that describes this method.

The method was used by engineers before the advent of the computer to analyse structures that did not have pin jointed elements such as portal frames.

Alternatively, if you have more than four saddles, you can break up the model into sections. This method is not as accurate, but you can get a reasonable answer.
