Dear All,

My client has comment on my calculation, allowable stress on WRC result shall be compare with 0.9*Ys. This is different what i understood because 0.9*Ys stress only applicable for hydro test condition which on this condition on piping load will involve.

Normally, allowable stress can calculate as per below :

Pm = Sa
Pm + Pl = 1.5*Sa
Pm + Pl + Q = 3*sa

can anybody help tell me, which cross on WRC bulletin stated stress due to piping load shall be compared with allowable stress instead of 0.9*Ys.

Pls advise & correct if i wrong.

TQ

ZUL

Dear ZUL

According to me, in WRC 107 no allowable stress is mentioned,it is only calculate the calculated stress.
But IN WRC 297, For Pm+Pb+Q they are giving reference of 3*Sm.

Agree with Sajit that WRC-107 doesn't give allowables. The allowables you mention and that are used for evaluation are taken from ASME VIII div. 2.
It's best to point your client to that code.

I Agree with Sajit, That mean WRC-107 analysis based on ASME VIII div.2 ?

So what the allowable stress ? it is correct what PV elite implemented or

should be compare with 0.9 x Sy ?

Pls help to advise ...

WRC-107 analysis determines occuring stresses in 4 points on a shell around an attachment.
What PV-Elite does is calculate the stresses according to WRC-107 and applies the maximum allowable stresses according to ASME VIII div. 2 (alternative design approach).
I have no idea why you should compare the calculated stresses to 0.9Sy.
