Hi to all forum members,

Currently i am doing stress analysis of cpvc piping.please guide me for following question,
1)which pipe material should be taken in caesar and pipe properties(Hot and cold allowable stress and modulous of elasticity).
2)what Special consideration should be taken care in stress analysis?
3) Can we check as per ASME B31.3 like metal piping. It means CPVC piping should be qualified in primary & secondary stress?

Please give us valuable suggestion.

Thanks and regard's

Please do a search in this forum on PVC, PE or thermoplastic, and you will find a lot of topics with all the same comments.

1. You should enter the pipe properties yourself. Keep in mind that thermoplastics have different long and short term behaviour.
2. See 1. Also keep in mind that the 3D beam element may not be suitable when very large displacements are calculated.
3. Does PVC have an elastic-plastic behaviour? If not, it can't be analysed as if it is steel.

General:
Think about the material behaviour and the material properties to use. Also keep in mind if the 3D beam element is suitable for your calculation. Choose the appropriate calculation method and design code.
