Hallo Forum,

We want to do the surge analysis of Pump discharge line of 24" (Naptha line). Line is going from pump to jetty. Total length 2600m.
I have calculted pressure wave velocity & max surge press. But I wish to give forces on elbow.

1. How to divide this surge force on elbows. I am doing static analysis only.
2. Does any need of dynamic analysis.

Regards

RKJ

Hi,

Is your client is not mentioned in your contract scope to perform Dynamic Analysis for such cases. If not, just leave it, since if client is not specified in contract just avoid it. "World is of Money" - "No Money - No Work".

Since it is a final product Naptha line, the accuracy of dynamic stress is preferred. So it is better to proceed with Time history analysis with some more accurate information from transient softwares such as pipenet, AFT impulse, TLNET etc. If no transient input is available calculate the transient forces and pressure manually and arrive a time vs load as accurate as possible. Follow the procedure as specified in the Coade newsletter June 1994.

i have a same question .if i perform time history analysis in caesar . does it give me accurate dynamic result or i have to go for other software like pipenet.

CAESAR II does not perform fluid computations. You need to make a run in a Hydraulic package, like Pipenet, and take the resulting loads as input into CAESAR II (to determine the resulting stresses in the system).

I think that is a good new webpage because you can now see all the titles of the articles. Also it is grouped on categories.

http://coade.com/Mechanical%20Engineering%20News%20Index.shtml

Maybe it is a good idea to do the same with the forum. I mean to group the topics using tags, or similar.

In any case when improvemens are done it is better that are anounced in some way (a space for news, anouncements or so - on top of the forum page).

Regards,
