Hello Everyone!!

Can some one guide me on the steps required to design a pipe clamp shoe support!!

The steps coming in my mind are as follows:

a) Check whether the applied lateral & axial forces (because of friction) is less than clamping forces?
Clamping forces may be calculated by calculating the tensile load created by bolt tightening with due consideration of the clamp area resisting tightening!

b) Check for the max shear load that can be safely carried by the clamp

c) check for the direct shear stresses produced in the members of the shoe & bending stresses.

d) Check for the welding strength..

The minimum of the above four should be the clamp shoe allowable.

Experts please advise as appropriate!!

After a long time, I got something assertive...!!!

Buying a clamped shoe is not an option for me as I need to design it for some supports which are part of Special supports!!

I hope the methodology is right because the only thing which differentiates the clamp shoe with a welded one is the clamping force!!!

Some more guidelines on it are these enough!!!

What you have done seem correct approach. b and c will need to be combined against the allowables. Vendor is using typically FEA for shoe calculation, so vendor catalogue shows maximum permissible.
