I have started using 2011 on a new project and I'm having trouble with the new line numbering feature.

First - getting the number to "stick" is inconsisent. I enter the number and advance to the next cell. Sometimes it will take, and sometimes it will revert to "unassigned". I haven't figured out what the pattern is (hit enter? hit tab?) to get the initial number assignment to stick.

Second - when I do get a number to stick and have it follow continuing nodes, when I use the break command to split a segment, the number assignment gets deleted from both segments. I use the break command a lot to build models and this is proving to be a considerable nuisance.

So, while I like the concept of being able to assign an identifier to a group of elements, the execution so far is proving to be a hassle.

Wait for the next build (Service Pack). We've done a lot of additional work on Line Numbers as a result of user feed back.

(We hope to have this next build out by end of this month.)

And, I give up. After saving my file under a different name to explore a potential design option, I find that all the line numbers were lost. Everything in the new model is now "unassigned."

The earlier version still has the line numbers, but I'm too far along with the modifications to go back and make another copy.

Don't use Line Numbers until you acquire Service Pack 2.
