Hi all

I am working on CS pipe which is coaated with FBE (Fusion bonded Epoxy). Line size is 20" sch 80. Temp = 95C Pressure is 224 bars.
I would like to know what is the limitation for expansion in loops. My concern is to make sure that my coating is not going to tear because of too much expansion at bends. Total run of this line is 3KM.

How did you model your pipe? have you considered only CS pipe? or CS pipe with a coating thickness?

i assume the coating is a gradual application through out the pipe. so, considering the thermal expansion (0.2mm/m), it should not affect the coating.
however, i am not a material expert. lets have some experts throw some light on this topic.

Can you please explain how to model a coating in Caesar. I know how to consider the insulation in Caesar, but dont know about coating.

How about the thickness of epoxy? I have experience once in FRP pipe with Epoxy coat thick 1". I input it as a insulation with product density from Vendor. The purpose is to check the total weight and stress in the system.

As your case, CII can not check whether tear or not regarding to the thermal expansion of cs pipe. In my opinion, I think you can estimate or use CII to check overall thermal expansion of pipe in m or mm. and pass to Vendor to advise.

I suspect that the local deformation needed to cause damage to an FBE coating would long before cause major structural failure in the steel pipe.
