Use the [Search] facility and search on the word "compatible" - you'll find many posts here that discuss this issue. (You will also find a statement in the "Distribution Letter" of every release that files are not downward compatible.)
In short, you cannot convert a piping input file to an earlier version IF the newer version contains additional data that the earlier version didn't address. This is why you can't take your 5.10 neutral file back to 5.00, the neutral file reader in Version 5.00 cannot address the added data in Version 5.10.
Now you could compare the neutral file documentation between 5.10 and 5.00, and manually edit the neutral file to remove the extra data, but if the job has more than a few elements, this is a very tedious task which will fail on even a single mistake. You would be better off either regenerating the input or upgrading the 5.00 installation to 5.10.
