Dear all
We are designing 40 meter long column, there are 10 no. of platforms. At each elevation width of platform is not contact. It’s varying. i.e. A)0 – 120degree -> platform width is 1200 mm, then B)120-260 degree -> Platform width is 1500 mm. & c)from 260- 360 degree -> platform width is 1800mm. Height of platform is constant 1000 mm. & Force co-efficient = 1.2

Therefore, we have modeled platform is segment A, B, C.

Now while, computing wind area of platform, PV-Elite perform calc as below,
1. area of Segment A = 1200 x 1000 x 1.2
2. are of segment B , C accordingly.

Now, if we model, entire platform with maximum width 1800 mm from 0-360 degree
Then, compute, Wind Area = 1800 x 1000 x 1.2 x 2 (this 2 is considered when width of platform more then 180 degree)
This wind area is les then above computer wind area with segmental platform.

We think, PV-Elite missing the consideration of angle is it’s calculation.

With above comparison, we found that don’t model platform in segment, consider maximum width & perform modeling.

Pl. shares your view, if you have encountered in same issue.

From what been discovered above. I believe this is true

Please find attached .. my past design job which i just discovered from this issue.

We take example for Platform #1 which is 175°.
Area 1.1m x 1.5m = 1.65m². Wind @ elevation = 80.24 kg/m²
Force for one side of PF= 1.65*80.24*9.81= 1298N (this is what pvelite calculate.)

It is suppose to checked for max projected wind area which to make it more conservative it should take 2 sides.

Different case if i model it with more than 180° please see platform #12 = 1.2m X 1.1m = 1.32m² x 2 sides = 2.64m²

This will be serious issue for the tower. Plus we do have many jobs that requires for blast load. Projected area are so important to us..
