My nozzle and and vessel orintation is as shown in attached figure. Both have the same direction cosine ie (0,0,-1).
how do i overcome this problem while doing wrc 297 as it requires miminumm two diffrent direction cosines

Actually, WRC297 does not support this kind of nozzle.
the beat way is to use FE-PIPE to analysis the flexibility and put them into CII piping system.

if you can provide the geometry information, I can help you get the flexibility of the Nozzle.

Good Luck.

WRC 297 address to cylinder to cylinder intersection.
Some may still apply WRC 297 same as in your case but you can take the head raduis as the stiffener distances but this is only as approximation.
You can apply also PD-5500 for sure.

Yes...You have to determine whether the WRC 107 bulletin is appropriate for the computation of the local stress state in the vessel due to external loading, geometry guidelines should be first reviewed.

Dear Richard Ay,

Why not WRC 107 option shall also be included in the nozzle check for this kind of cases?

Mr. Learner,

For this kind of approach where we cannot use WRC 297 or FEA, u may also adopt the following method,

Connect the nozzle to the vessel head or bottom using c-node option and calculate the load at the nozzle.

Using the WRC 107/297 option in the Analysis u can check the actual load with the allowable.

WRC297 addresses cylinder-cylinder intersections. Cylinder-head is not addressed.

Dear Richard Ay,

I am asking Coade, why not the option for WRC 107 shall not be provided as like WRC 297, API 650 etc... in Caesar-II nozzle check....

The nozzle options for WRC297, API650, and PD5500 generate flexibilities (stiffnesses) for the nozzle connection. WRC107 doesn't have this ability, this bulletin is only a stress computation.
