In the new edition SIF for socket weld 1.3

For me at a first view the code become more permissive, probable based on the computer era that provide more acurate results. While is true, true is also that our analysis do not cover all possible scenarios, so a degree of safety margin still is desired.

I think that many will pass to the appendix P that is now even more permissive than in the 2008 edition.

I know that many big companies still maintain the rule of "no liberal stress". Appendix P make this obsolete. Is this dangerous? I know that everybody will say "If this is the code, this is what we are doing". Still.........

Regards,

Not to mention that now in the same Appendix P the reactions can be calculated using the Eh.

Correction: "may be calculated". My english is not so good smile

In any case para 319.5 seems to be the one that state that Ea should be used.
