Hi,

I need your view on steam out case. I had this doubt from long time. As per spec we do perform Steam out case for exchangers and vessels. Generally this steam out process time will be very less compare to then general operational time of plant. In the analysis we do check calculated stress are below allowable or not and also we check calculated force & moments are less than allowable or not, etc. My question is since the process time for steam out is very less, if the calculated forces and moments are more than allowable(say 1.5 times the allowable)is it acceptable.

Please advice.

Some companies will accept 1.5 allowable loads on pumps not because of the short duration but because are not running.

Thank you danb,

One more thing to add here is, if the calculated resultants is less than allowables(resultants)can we consider that the system is ok, since the period is less.

I need expert individuals opinion in this forum about the Hydro test case and steam out case Loads on, up to what extent we can go beyond the allowable's since the period is very less.

Regards,
sk

How do we understand "steam out case" for exchanger or vessels?

I also meet HP steam piping now and want to know more about the work situation.

Thanks!!!

I feel like since there is increased allowable stress by 1.33 times for occasional cases, there must be same thing in allowable loads also for heat exchangers and vessels.

Pleas justify me
