Hello, I just started as a stress analist/designer and Iīm working with CaesarII-5.2. Iīve worked with it for several days but today I couldīnt start the piping input, the problem is similar to the one on the tread "CaesarII-5.2 " by NVM ( the piping input dialog box just wonīnt open). I call the IT guys to fix the problem, but apparently the problem only appear when we log on with my Windows user name.
Any clues? Why is this happening?

PD: The error number that appear after several minutes is 41. And the error review says that itīs caused because the CONTROL file is missing(but itīs not)

THX

First check to make sure that the input module isn't opening "minimized". Check the task bar and if you see two CAESAR II icons, right-click on the right-most one and then select "maximize".

If that isn't the problem, use Windows Explorer and try to delete the CONTROL file. If you can't, you have a permission problem and that is why CAESAR II can't manipulate the file.

Also, if your data directory is on a network, another user may have ownership of the CONTROL file. This is why everyone working in a shared network directory needs to set the "USER_ID" in the Configuration Module.

Richard:
First of all I would like to thank you for the quick response. Secondly I have to inform you that I still have this problem. The input module was minimized, but when I try to maximize it, the error 41 appears (that was when I check what the number mean).
Also I tried to delete the control file, I did it just fine. Im not saving any data on the network ( I could though) Iīm saving everything on the local hard drive.

Should I try to repair the installation?

THX

Also: Im working with the Build 090430. I noticed that there is an update on your download page (Build 100715). Will updating help with this problem?

Try restarting Windows.

The update won't solve this problem, we haven't changed or fixed anything related to the CONTROL file.

There is nothing to repair, this is a Windows "file access/permission" problem. You can try turning off UAC, maybe that will help.

There is something else happening, outside of CAESAR II. You say above that if your "Windows Profile" is deleted, things work - for a while. This has to be a rights/permission issue, CAESAR II does not play around at the system level.

For example, about a year ago we ran into a user whose IT group had "write-protected" the portion of the Registry where the MRU lists are maintained, this caused CAESAR II to crash anytime he attempted to change jobs. According to Microsoft, the MRU area is supposed to be writeable. The short term solution was to tell IT to lay off that portion of the registry, long term we had to detect and trap the failure, to avoid the crash.

I suspect something similar is going on with your problem. You say everything is ok for a while, then the error returns. What was the last operation you attempted before seeing the error - changing job files perhaps?

Iīm not exactly sure when the error returned, but itīs very likely that it started when I wanted to make a new job.

So what probaby happened was in this order:
1- Finished the piping input in "job 1"
2- Close the piping input
3- Didnīt run the model, but checked it for error.
4- Closed the "job 1"
5- Started a new job
6- Not allowed to use the piping input frown

I just got my windows account renewed. The piping input is working at the moment. Will see if the error comes back.

A bit late but you can try the following with Windows 7 64-bit, right-click on the icon on your desktop and choose "troubleshoot compatibility" choose the recommended settings and follow the onscreen prompts. This may help *if* your dongle is detected, otherwise download the latest dongle drivers from www.hasp.com
