For forces and moments are following shall apply:
FL = α x 2.0 x D [kN]
FA = α x 2.0 x D [kN]
FC = α x 1.5 x D [kN]
MT = αx 0.15 x D2 [kNm]
ML = α x 0.13 x D2 [kNm]
MC= α x 0.10 x D2 [kNm]
Where α value is,
0.75 for flange ratings 150# and 300#
1.25 for flange rating 600#
1.5 for flange rating 900#
2.0 for flange rating 1500# and 2500#
D = nom. Nozzle size in inch

Is this right way to calculate vessel, shell & tube heat exchanger allowable force & moments for ASME VIII Div.1 or Div.2 ?

This seems like from a user specification.

What do others think?

Dear Mandeep,

The formulae written above are the acceptable formulaes by clients and universally recognized.

However, if clients do not provide the allowable nozzle load table in BED then one can get confirmation from clients before using these formulaes.

Personally, I do not forsee any problem in forces and moment derived by this method.

Reference for these formulaes can be found out in any piping handbook.

Dear Shukla

so if the nozzle is 24 inch 600#, then

945 X 2 X 24 = 45360 KN

For class 600# the factor is 1.25

45360 X 1.25 = 56700 KN -> 56700000N?

please clarify my understanding is correct..

Thanks in advance.

Dear Baskar 1982

It means that you must substitute α with the mentioned factors in above formula

I.E. for a 24 inch nozzle which class is 600#

FL=α*2*D

Fl=1.25*2*24=60 KN=60000N

All The Best,
Mamad
