Dear Friends,
Please guide me is there any criteria to evaluate the forces on the bend nodes/ mesh generated by Buried modeller.

In my stress analysis the stresses are within code limits,But client is commenting that the forces are higher.

Please guide me of any literature or code requirement where we can say that the forces & displacements shall be less than certain value.

Please guide.
Thanks & Regards

If you have modelled the soil correctly, then as long as your stresses are within the code allowables then you are fine.

Why are you looking at forces at bends? Do you have to design thrust blocks? If it's welded construction you do not need thrust blocks.

Dear Mr. MDA / Friends,

This is my opinion, Correct me if i am wrong.

The forces generated at the particular buried portion shall be provided to CIVIL department to check the soil bearing capacity. If the soil bearing capacity withstands the forces exerted on bend or joint, then you may justify that the forces are within the limit.

Regards,
Raam.

Dear Firends,
I agree with you that as long as stress are within the limit there is no concern on the forces at bends.
But client is commenting to reduce the forces....the guidelines of which is not available.

As advice by Mr. Raam, we can explore the posibility of checking the soil bearing capacity. Do the forum members had any guidance on the same.

I would like to add one more point how to check the capability of weld to absorb these forces at bends. If the welds are strong enough to resist this force then there might not be any issue....Please guide

Is there any guideline in Code or Books where we can have maximum displacement limit for buried pipeline especially at bends. The client is commenting that displacement shall be less than 50 mm only. Which is very less especially for long pipeline....Please through some guidance on this also.
Thanks & regards
