<font size="2" color="#800000">CAESAR II Version 5.00 is at the duplicators and will ship to users with up to date maintenance plans by the second week of November. The changes being made to the software for Version 5.00 have been previously announced. Version 5.00 will also require a <font size="2" color="800000">new ESL</font> (External Software Lock). This change has been necessitated by a number of technical and business factors outside of COADE's control. Sir,

We read from the sneekpreview of Caesar-II ver 5.00 that it is now having consistent mass modelling capability. You have briefly explained its need by the cantilever beam 1st freq calc.

Please explain consistent mass modelling v/s lumped mass modelling in dynamic analysis a bit more if possible.

I got the following link in www which may be useful for young users of Caesar-II, who did not have any formal training of FEA in engineering colleage.

The info. is good but will be tough for a person who has not studied FEA as the concept of minimization of a variational requires some background of Calculus of Variations and understanding of the concepts like"strong" and "weak "solutions.Also to properly understand the discussion in the link, I would recommend a brief brushing up of numerical methods in linear algebra.

I would recommend anybody to go to google, type"Hamilton's Principle" and "Calculus of variations" and get as much info. as possible. The internet has wealth of info. on these subjects and let that be the starting point for someone to understand the concepts of lumped and consistent mass matrices.

I have seen the previous chapters of these PDF documents. In my opinion, they require some supplement for a fresher to grasp all the concepts.

For the pipe stress analysts like us who are still using Caesar-II version 4.4 & 4.5, why not some one from M/s Coade exhibit in this forum what Caesar-II version 5.00 can achieve additionally - over and above the already provided PowerPoint presentation sneak preview of Caesar-II ver 5.00 with some realistic case studies.

In Nov,05 Mech Engg, Alan Stevens, an engineer at Rolls-Royce plc of London explains the superiority of MathCAD over MS Excel in accurate engineering calculation.

Unless forced, most of us try to avoid accepting changes in software versions due to some temporary loss in productivity & uncertainty of transition phase & our lack of learn-ability. We understand that the cost of version upgrade comes back quickly and analysts feel more competent & interested with new versions of sofware.

We have to install the new version, get some local training, study new version manuals & tutorials & apply. But, before that - for what ?

Here is the list of Technical changes made to CAESAR II for Version 5.00.

This list details the new or changed capabilities and features of CAESAR II Version 5.00.
• The following new piping codes have been added: EN-13480, GPTC/192, Z662 Ch 11
• The following piping codes have been revised due to “code” changes: B31.1, B31.3, B31.5, B31.8, B31.11, ASME NC, ASME ND, CODETI, TBK 5-6.
• Additional codes and standards updated: API-610.
• Added Ameron Bondstrand, and Conely FRP pipe specification files.
• Added Binder (Australia) and PiHASA (Spain) spring hanger tables.
• Added structural steel data bases from India and Japan.
• Renamed all references to “Grinnell” to “Anvil”.
• The ability to perform dynamic analysis optionally using a consistent mass matrix. This obviates the need re-mesh the model for better mass distribution.
• The ability to perform an analysis using the “hot” material elastic modulus.
• The static output processor has been enhanced to provide users with the ability to create custom, reusable reports. The expanded static output control dialog is shown in the figure below.
• The piping input processor has been revised to provide a combined showing both the graphics and the spreadsheet. The new piping input processor has integrated the Piping Error Checker, and access to the configuration module has been provided. For debugging and problem solving, relevant sections of the spreadsheet can be torn off and placed on the graphics pane, allowing the spreadsheet to be hidden for larger graphics display. Additionally, sections of the model can be graphically selected and then modified.
• Updated Intergraph and PCF interfaces.
• An “Isogen” export facility has been added, allowing the creation of Isogen “stress isometrics”.

Phew!

I will be VERY intrested to see the isogen and en13480 modules.

I just hope ISOGEN works better in Caesar than the junk I see typically getting dumped out of the piping models.

The export to ISOGEN works as follows:

- Pick a model
- Start the CAESAR II module that drives ISOGEN. This is a toolbar button on the Main Menu.
- From within this module, activate various annotation options.
- Generate the drawing(s).

Once the "dwg" file (or files) has (have) been created, you can view them with the Autodesk supplied "DWG Viewer". A sample from a small job is shown below. This model generated 5 DWG files.

Its great to know that CAESAR II 5.00 can generate isogen but will it require any additional software

no additional software is required....

BUT some advanced modeling techniques used for beam element models may not allow an Isogen iso to be created.

Therby reinforcing to me that analysis and fab-isos are only loosely related.

But I suspect that it will be useful for most models!
