Good afternoon, hopefully a simple question: My piping system has several lengthy runs that go off at 45 degrees from one another. Can I define a secondary coordinate system for the restraints so that the x, y, z are 45-deg offset and properly align with the pipe run?

Regards,
Chris

Not that I know, but there are two ways to model the pipe and supports that can help you have the restraints aligned with the pipe.

One is to use G and L (guide and limit) instead X and Z, the other is to model the skewed part as it would be not skewed, than to rotate all these elements with 45 degrees. It will rotate their supports as well.

Regards,

You can define the line of action of a restraint as a vector (eg 0.707,0.5,0.866), so any direction of restraint can be applied to pipe in any direction. Check out the User Guide.

Copy the direction cosines (vectors) from skewed pipe and mention that along with the restraint. For example, if your pipe is running between X and Z axis having direction cosines as 0.707, 0, 0.707. Mention these direction cosines along with your restraint ie. Provide "X (0.707, 0, 0.707)" for axial stop.
Does this sounds same as MoverZ....? smile
