Hello all;

I have a problem in calculation of "allowable longitudinal compressive stress" (for combined load)
As you know in Pvelite report ,there is a page that notes amount of "Allowable longitudinal compressive stress" for combined loads . As per code it seems that all long. Comp. stress should be minimum "Factor B & all. Tensile stress" , but pvelite reports a different number.
I tried it with code case 2286, but again there is a mismatch between code case 2286 and Pvelite report.
Amount of the Pvelite report is a number between factor B and code case 2286.
In this regard please guide me how pvelite calculate the "allowable longitudinal compressive stress"

Looking foreward for your reply
tnx

Hi Process,

Is the difference between your hand calculation and the PV Elite computed value 1.2 times?

Dear Scott

Thank you for your kind attention
Yes, "Pvelite computed value / 1.2" is different with "factor B" and "code case 2286",
Please be advised that Pvelite computed value /1.2 is a number between factor B and code case 2286.

Looking forward for your reply
Thanks for your kind attention

Hello Process

Under normal circumstances, the stress are limited by the factor B for longitudinal compressive stresses. However, when you have occasional loads, which are defined as wind or seismic loading, you are allowed to increase those short duration stresses by 20%. You can find this information in paragraph UG-23(d) of ASME Section VIII, Division 1.

Dear Ray

Yes, you are right. But the issue is that “Factor B” x 1.2 is not equal to Pvelite computed value. And also “Factor B”( x 1) or( x 1.33) is not equal to Pvelit computed value.
I could not find any relation between Factor B and Pvelit computed value. Same case for code case 2286!
Please be advised that my Pvelite version is 2007.

Looking forward for your reply
Thanks for your kind attention

Hello processengineer

It is difficult for me to comment without any data. Please let me have a copy of your calculations so I can make the comparison. You can send to techsupport@coade.com for my attention.
