HELLO FREINDS,
I WANTED TO KNOW,IN PV ELITE WHY SKIRT DESIGN IS NOT BEING CONDUCTED FOR THICKNESS.
AND IF DONE, THAN WHERE I CAN FIND THAT CALCULATION IN THE OUTPUT.BECOS AT INTERNAL AND EXTRENAL THICKNESS CALCULATION IS SHOWS NO CAL.
AS THERE IS NO PRESSURE.

I AM ASKING BECOS SOMETIMES CLIENT WANT THAT CALCULATION OF SKIRT TO BE HIGHLIGTED IN OUTPUT.
I THINK IN PVELITE 2006 OR 2004 IT HAS AND SKIRT THICKNESS CALCULATION !!!
I AM USING PV ELITE.2008 AND 2009

KINDLY SUGGEST.....

PV Elite does not calculate thickness of skirt at all. Based on thickness specified it will show you stresses induced in the skirt for various combination of loadings in section called "stresses due to combined loads".

Hope the above is clear.

Mukesh

The vessel skirt has no internal pressure, it is under combination of loads such as weight, overturning due to wind/seismic etc. Hence, there is no direct formula to compute its required thickness.

You have to assume a starting thickness, compute the vessel natural frequency, compute the wind/seismic loads etc., then compute the stress in the skirt due to combination of these loads.

If you want to find the req. skirt thickness, you can set a very less thickness in the input, tell the program to automatically select wall thickness for axial stress (this is on Design Constraints tab).

Then analyze the file, you will get a message that the wall thicknesses have been updated. You can also see the new selected thicknesses in the "Element Original Thicknesses" report.

Next close the output, you will be asked to accept new thickness changes (be careful not to update other element thicknesses) or manually enter the new skirt thickness.

Then, re-run the analysis with the new skirt thickness. After few iterations you will find the required skirt thickness.

Thank you Mukesh

Hello Liu

If you can lay your hands on a book called: Pressure Vessel Handbook by Eugene Megysey published by Gulf Publising, it sets out in simple terms the design of the skirt and basering. This book is full of useful data and us well worth aquiring. In the United States it costs about $130. It is available from Brown Bookshop in Houston. The link to Brown Bookshop is: http://www.brownbookshop.com/.
