Bob,

From your thread I understand that you also think that "hot sustained" is not applicable for non-linear system. Please let me know if I'm right. But this is all I said. Nothing else.

For example, in the last file that I attached (hot sustained3.CAESAR II) the difference between cold sustained and hot sustained is due to the friction, non-linear issue.

Can we please comment on these numbers?

Best regards,

No. The whole purpose of the Hot Sus case is to deal with the non linear lift-off cases. Sometimes peculiar things happen with the hot sus case when supports do not lift-off. This has to do with friction and allowing supports to lift-off that do not in the operating cases. Uplift is not the case in your hot "sustained3.c 2" file. You must remember that the T1 case DOES NOT have friction effects for a "flat turn horizontal" layout since no "W" or weight in the system for T1 only.

There are exceptions and limitations for just about anything in this pipe stress field. Caesar II is an approximate/simplified mathematical representation of a PHYSICAL piping system. I will stop here and get back to work.

Dear piping engineers,

why you argue with each other?
I've read whole posts on this topic.
The solution is, to do what moderators (Richard and Dave) recommend to you.
They know any problem and solution in CAESAR II very well and conduct us to use CAESAR II Properly.

Keep in mind that Rich and I, any all other writers offer our personal OPINIONS here.

Until a certain approach to analysis appears in some "standard" somewhere, no standard has been established. That may sound obvious but looking at it another way, if there is no standard, then different approaches may be equally valid.

I know that I said that I stop but I forgot something.

How about this?

1 (OPE) W+T1+P1 (friction included)
2 (OPE) W+T1+P1 (friction not included)
3 (SUS) W+P1
4 (EXP) T1
5 (EXP) L5=L1-L3
6 (SUS) L6=L2-L4

Best regards,
