".....Click and drag the data input window off the top margin (border). You must click on the window header to do this. To park the window against the left margin drag the window to the left. KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE CURSOR. Do not let the cursor touch any margin before it touches the left margin. When the cursor touches the left margin, you will see the input window snap into place."

Pretty much everything in the Piping Input Processor is moveable and dockable. You're right though, if you're not careful you end up fighting Windows.
