Dear all,

Can anyone suggest how to do cold spring or cut short in Caesar II?

There are two methods discussed in the documentation manuals:
1) use T2 with a negative expansion coefficient
2) use materials 18 and/or 19, then include CS in the load cases.

Before you go and make a design work by using cold spring, think about the quality of the labour of construction, and whether there will be any pipe stress engineers on site who are able to supervise and witness the installation.

You should also test your design for robustness, if your design fails because it is sensitive to changes in cut long / short length (ie: 15-50mm or so), then you should reconsider. There are so many construction tolerances and factors which could affect your design, and if it's on critical equipment or flanges etc, you need to think about the safety of your design.

My experience on site is that cold spring is an engineer's magic wand, implementing it in the field so that it functions as per the CII model is another thing...
