I was reviewing the trunnion check methodology used by kellog and came across a confusing thing. While checking for the feasibility of stress, it considers the combination of axial stress with circumferential as well as longitudional stresses and verifies against 1.5 times hot allowable. My question is how can we add two stresses in different direction.
