Hi All,

I had a question on what cases should be considered for API 610 Analysis. Should Seismic+Operating be considered as a case in API 610 or just operating & design cases are enough?

And if Seismic+Operating is considered what will be the multiplier factor for that case.

Thanks for any reply

If you wanted a reply from California Why did you ask in this forum that is global?

I am sorry if i hurted someone. I was intending to get a conformation on what saravanan.2k5 replied by asking someone who analyzed lines under Zone 4 category.

hi
B31.3 recommends to check only stresses in ocassional conditions. it is better to check support loads for ocassional cases like wind, seismic.

Hi Stress engineer,

Can you tell exactly in which paragraph 31.3 tells this? so we can finish this topic.

Thanks

Hi jfavourite,

Since your question regards the loads on nozzle analysis as per API 610, I would check only the operation loads.

In my opinion, the purpose to have this check done is to assure the pump’s alignment during the operation. If an earthquake occurs, there you will have to stop the plant anyway, check every system maybe start a precomminsionig, align the pump and then start up.

I hope this could help you

jfavourite,

addition to Santiago Naranjo

I understand from your first post that, you want to know the nozzle allowable load criteria for ope+seismic case for API pumps.
Normally we used to take 2 times the value given in table 4 of API610.
Should there be a requirement for increased nozzle allowable forces or moments in any one or more directions, shall be mutually discussed with vendor.

The answer to the question is what the project specification says. There is nothing in API 610 which says which load cases to consider and which not.Talk to mechanical engineering dept ( or vessel/rotating equipment group, by whichever name they are known in your company)in conjunction with what the project specification ( a document which requires approval by client) says and you may need to contact the vendor through the same dept asap.
