I am doing External pressure calculation of ellipsoidal head in pvelite. But I am not able to view the calculation as per clause UG-33 (a)(1)(a). I am not sure whether pvelite is doing external pressure calculation as per above mentioned clause.

Can any pvelite users tell that, Is pvelite doing the calculation as per UG-33 (a)(1)(a).

PV Elite 2010 does check the calculation per UG-33(a)(1), but it is only printing that note for UG-33(a)(1) if it does not govern.

Since the internal pressure is > 1.67 times the external pressure the requirements of UG-33(1)(a) do not govern.

In addition to Luis's reply,

If the required thickness from UG-33(a)(1) is greater than the External pressure required thickness, then of course PV Elite prints the required thickness per UG-33(a)(1).

But, most of the times UG-33(a)(1) does not control, hence we added a note to indicate that UG-33(a)(1) is being considered.

You may need to apply the latest build on your version of PV Elite to see the note that Luis is referring to.

Thanks for your reply.

I have found one pvelite calculation from the internet which is done using Pvelite 2009 & the same is attached herewith for your reference.

Please see page 22 of this calculation, here you can see the whole calculation as per UG-33 (a)(1)(a) whereas as per your reply pvelite only produce a NOTE.

One more thing in this calculation is that pvelte is adding static pressure in the Design pressure. I do not understand, how can static pressure is to be added in the external pressure calculation.

Please clarify.

Hi Yada,

The calculation on page 22 that you noted was added by the analyst and was not produced by PV Elite. Internally, PV Elite uses 1.67 times the specified external pressure (there is no static pressure added) to check the requirements of UG-33.
