Hi dear all,

though i know this forum is for Pipe stress analysis, i wanna help in Expansion bellow design.

will somebody please guide me/ provide material to design the Expansion Bellow . which are the parameters need to be considered ( Other than the axial and lateral which are Vimp) i mean to calculate thickness and other things.

in my case i have to connect the Exchanger Nozzle to separator nozzle with expansion below directly there is no piping at all in between. pressure is 10 kg/cm2 for steam service at 110 deg.

Dear Pramod,

Following mentioned std's will give you guidelines for designing of expansion bellows.

1)ASME SEC VIII DIV-1 APPENDIX-5 for (THICK BELLOW) & APPENDIX 26 for(THIN BELLOWS).

2) Also refer TEMA STD RCB-8.

3)Refer EJMA STD for various types of thin & piping applications expansion bellows.

Hope this material will serve your purpose.

Hello Pramod

If you have a copy of our software: CodeCalc, there is a module in that programme to anayse an expansion joint. However, in your case, you will know the movement and pressure. It does the analysis to TEMA and ASME VIII, Division 1. If you would like more information about CodeCalc (which is part of out PV Elite pressure vessel analysis software), you can go to our website, or you can send me an email at techsupport@coade.com.

Dear Pramod,
Before going ahead for usage of software as tool for your design, Its essential that you become well verse with its design concepts and applicable codes & standards & to study its theories & modes of failure.

& since design of expansion bellow is a bit complicated, you should take your time to perform certain home work before jumping on directly to the software.

After your concepts are through, Software may definatley help you to reduce your time & increase efficiency.
