Dear all,

For equipment nozzle evaluation, should we use Ec or Eh ?

If Eh is used, could anyone explain to me the reason ?

If for example you have a pipe at 800 deg C, its Eh may be 60% of its Ec value and realistically, nozzle loads resulting from expansion will be due to Eh, not Ec. It is your choice whether or not to use Eh for nozzle loads, and support / restraint loads. However you MUST use Ec for the stress range, assuming you are complying with B31 Codes.

Using Eh is certainly a legitimate and sometime necessary approach for checking nozzle loads in highly elevated temperature situations.
