Hi folks
In Appendix Y of ASME Section VIII, Division 1, there is as symbol Hp in the nomenclature. That indicates that the m and y gasket factor are included in the analysis. Strictly speaking it is therefore correct to say that there is a gasket force in some instances.
In CodeCalc, we have assumed a self energising gasket is employed, as the flanges have a metal to metal contact. In the code, paragraph Appendix Y-1(b), the gasket reaction is discussed. But, metal to metal flanges primarily employ self energising gaskets.
We are going to discuss this issue internally to see of CodeCalc can be changed to accommodate a gasket load.
