Hi there,

I am busy with a piping design for our client. Its a B31.1 design that I'm doing on Ceasar. The pipe material is A312 TP316L. there are variuos pipes sizes from 10" to 3/4". They want to install A304 WP316L ERW (electric resistance welded) fittings everywhere. Now according to Table 102.4.3 the weld efficiency for these are E=0.85. However, I cant find the allowable stress value for this in Appendix A, as it only lists fittings with E=1. Does this mean these fittings are not allowable to use, or will I be allowed to use the Allowable stress value in appendix A multiplied by 0.85? Furthermore, in Ceasar, It does not allow you to insert a Seam Welded bend with a defined WI, for B31.1, as it does for B31.3. Can I simply draw the bend as an element on its own and ad the 0.85 joint efficiency?

Regards
Erwil

The Ej is used for WALL THK calcs, not CII type Code pipe stresses. Redo your wall thk calcs to check for adequate thk.
