I use PV Elite 2010 to calculate a horizontal vessel on saddle supports. Under "Load Cases" "Miscellaneous options" I have the option of choosing Zick analysis or PD5500. What are the difference between Zick's analysis, ASME DIV 2, PD5500 and EN13445?

Hi Popy

They are all taken from the original paper by Leonard Zick, and modified slightly for each code. ASME Section VIII, Division 1 does not have the procedure for saddles in the body of the code. We formerly used the procedure from the Dennis Moss book: 'Pressure Vessel Design Manual'. However, in the 2007 version of ASME Section VIII, Division 2, a procedure was included for saddle analysis (again based on the Leonard Zick paper). We adopted this procedure also for ASME Section VIII, Division 1 as we felt that it was more logical to do so.

PD 5500 and EN 13445 have prescribed procedures to performing the saddle analysis.
