Can someone tell me if we have to define a "hydro test" load case for FRP pipe?
I didn’t find any information on hydro test pressure In BS7159 Standard.
Fallowing ASME B31.3, hydro test pressure is 1.5 * P (design).
I have no Idea for FRP pipe hydro pressure rate.

Could someone help me?

Thanks in advance.

I think it would be best to confirm to vendor about the hydrotest pressure to use since FRP properties varies from manufacturer to manufacturer..Or the other way is to include in RFQ the hydrotest pressure of 1.5 * P (design) so that they are aware that the line would be hydrotested this way..If the line is not so critical then a "Service Test" will do..Check also with client requirements...

If this piping falls within the PED (pressure equipment directive) you have to use the hydrotest pressure defined there.
Mostly you won't break a good FRP line as it has a high safety factor in material strength so don't worry to use 1,5 x Pdesign.

Thanks every body for your help.
Finally i asked to the FRP manufacturer and he gave a pressure of 1.3*Design pressure. But he told me usually in North America we use 1.25*P and in Europe 1.5*P.

Should your piping qualify to some standard piping code or PED? If so then the requirements from these codes are the ones you're looking for as I said above. 1.5 x Pdesign is a standard in europe indeed (actually 1.43x).

Hi Anojan,
I'm a bit late reading your post... can I ask who the vendor is for the FRP? FPI? Ameron? Anything to do with FRP the best global standard that covers it from design to installation is ISO14692. All FRP hydrotesting should be done to at least the 1.5x pressure. Hope that helps.
