Dear mandeep,

While designing bracket supported exchanger in PVElite, in bracket support dialogue box it will not ask no. of bolts on gusset.

I have bracket with one gusset at center & two bolts on bracket.

I want to ask that while entering bolt area i shuld enter for one bolt or two bolts?

Hi Purav

One method that may work is to take half the width of the gusset and put twe of the these half widths on the lug with not space between them. This will simulate one gusset plate.

Dear Ray,

Thanks for the reply.

But here in our case, this will not be true because the entire configuration is different, though we are entering distance between gusset nearly equal to zero, it takes no. of gusset as 2 only. hence force on lug will always be divided by 2, that is not correct.

Also, as there is no provision to enter no. of bolts, what area i should enter if there are 2 bolts per lug.

I request COADE team to incorporate this lug support configuration(Lug with single gusset & two bolts) in the next version, this is the typical requiremnt of EIL, its standard is attached herewith for your reference.

Analysis of this type of support is provided in Dennis R Moss. You can also refer to that.

Hi Purav

If you have two bolts, I suggest you just use the combined area to represent those two bolts.

With regards to the single gusset, could you possibly provide us with a published procedure for us to consider?

Ray,

You can refer to Procedure 3-13: Design of Lug Supports, of Pressure Vessel Design Manual 3rd Edition, by Dennis Moss.

Hello Purav

That method is essentially the same as the method I outlined, by placing two gusset plate very close together. The Dennis Moss book on page 189 Figure 3-64 lower left picture gives justification for this approach.

However, we shall give consideration to your good suggestion for a future revision to PV Elite
