Hi All,

I have aboveground piping and also underground piping.
I have modeled the above ground piping.
How to model underground piping in the same system with above ground?
Does anyone have basic step by step how to do this calculation?

Thanks in advance

I presume you're familiar with building and burying piping models in CAESAR II?

There are two ways to achieve what you're after:
1) Build two models, and after burying, include one in the other.
2) Build a single model, but only bury the appropriate portion.

This is the first time I have to model underground piping. So I need to learn also how to model underground piping.

Thank you Richard

See Chapter 11 in the User's Guide.

Hi,

Yes.What Richard told is correct. Please go through chapter 11 where you will find detailed explaination in relation to burried pipe modeling. Read and understand about FROM & TO MESH concept. Do not put any reatraints on the portion of the pipe which is to be burried as C-II will remove those while converting the model into Burried Model.

Take Care & Keep Smiling,

If you do create two seperate models, be aware that Caesar will renode all your nodes on the buried pipe section. Something to keep in mind if you are trying to mate the two models back together node to node.

The CAESAR II buried pipe modeler may remove added near and mid points on bends but it will not renumber or move existing nodes - it adds nodes for needed soil restraint.

Yes, CAESAR II will remove restraints in "buried" sections but you can add them to the the new model once it is "buried".

The process is this: 1) you build a model as if it was not buried, 2) you use the buried pipe modeler to provide soil data and spawn a new, buried model (the original model froom step 1 remains intact), 3) you can review and adjust the new model and run the analysis using this new model.

I know this thread was answered long ago, but I thought this would be the best place to ask this question. When modeling in CII, if you have a model that is buried and above ground, is it better to start the model at the above ground portion of pipe, and then go underground? I've built most of my models starting at the buried section, but notice that a lot of times I have larger than expected displacements at above ground sections regardless of how much of the pipe I bury. Just a question I've been pondering recently.

It makes no difference where the model starts (or ends).
