Dear All,

1)I am designing one gasket on below flange having ID is grater than bolt circle dia.(BCD) but pvelite is considering it as a full face gasket and designing as per "TAYLOR FORGE BULLATIN 502". actually I dont have this bulletin so, please ,could any body tell me is it a right design /calculation.(see attachment)

2)is it possible to design such type of gasket having Id is gtater than the BCD ,.if yes , how can we do that???

please see the attachment and suggest me, can i go ahead with what pvelite has done or any other method by which i can design gasket as i want .

thanks and appriciate all replies

Why dont you just design a full face gasket?

Pramod,

How can you have gasket id > Bolt circle diameter (BCD)? That means there is no sealing surface and the fluid will just leak from within the bolts.

Please check the design.

Is there a special reason they have done so? Please educate me.

ASME Sec. VIII App. 2 addresses the design of flanges with gasket fully within the Bolts.

But, if you have a gasket with ID less than BCD and gasket OD > BCD, it is known as Full Face flange as referred by Kinge above. In this case we use the procedure given in The Taylor Forge bulletin 502. This procedure is also given in many engineering books such as one by Dennis Moss and Jawad and Farr.

I hope this helps.

Pramod,

Yes , pvelite is doing the right calculation. If full face gasket is used then it will be designed by "TAYLOR FORGE BULLATIN 502".

So no problem go ahead with ur calculation.

Hello Folks

In a future release of PV Elite, we are going to include the PD 5500 method for full faced flanges. This method is very simple, and gives in most cases, thinner flanges. PD 5500 is the British pressure vessel code. The method is already available if you select PD 5500 in PV Elite.
